I'm convinced this willingness to keep on singing in 78 contributed greatly to the Mr. Froggy voice we know and love. Well that and 3 packs a day and opium pipes. I saw Mr. Squeaky in Modesto early that year and I just don't think he ever gave it time to heal or whatever.

Common sense would tell you the state of his voice required some rest and serious treatment.I did some quick math and with the Dead and JGB he did 70 shows just through July, with shows in every month allowing no consistent rest for his voice. At years end he had done 116 shows total with both bands for '78.I have to agree that his mishandling of his condition in '78 impacted his voice thereafter.

Yes, I really hated the 11-25-78 show in New Haven with the long drive from Maine through a blistering snowstorm; and the decision not to cancel the show until after showtime after all the relevant audience members participated in the ritual.

Although that 11-24 show on the radio was fine despite the Fire in the Mountain voice
